In the first programme of this series it explains that Mayne was a bit of a murderous nutter and had an example when he gunned down a load of Germans needlessly. Probably why he wasn't honoured with the VC.

The bloke was dead at 40 and what he done in his life is real boys own stuff, SAS, Solicitor AND Irish Rugby Union International, can't be many of them!

Deserves a film of his life really, what a watch that would be.

Only caught the last episode tonight, but so glad I did and will definitely watch the others. How Mane wasn't awarded the VC based on his exploits in the last episode alone I don't know.
